SHI TO SPONSOR FREE LECTURE ON GEORGE DAVIDSON AND THE KOHKLUX MAPS
Oct. 17, 2019
Sealaska Heritage Institute will sponsor a free lecture on the creation of “the Kohklux maps” in the mid 1800s by the Tlingit clan leader Kohklux, also known as Shotridge, and his wives for George Davidson of the U.S. Coast Survey, who traveled to Alaska 150 years ago to witness a total eclipse of the sun.
The lecture, George Davidson, Alaska, and the Search for New Harmony, will be given by John Cloud, an independent scholar affiliated with the Arctic Studies Center at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History.
The lecture is scheduled at noon, Monday, Oct. 21, at SHI’s Walter Soboleff Building, 105 S. Seward Street, Juneau.
Everyone is welcome.
