| As a Chilkat weaver,
Jennie Thlunaut dedicated three quarters of a century to
continuing this art. The art formed her life, and she in turn
gave form to traditional art, weaving over fifty robes,
shirts, and tunics. She was the recipient of numerous awards,
including the Governor's Award for the Arts and the
prestigious National Heritage Fellowship Award.
The work on this video began during a Chilkat weaving
workshop that Jennie taught in 1985. Through poetry,
interviews, and documentary footage, the video looks at
Jennie's life and art. It is also a study of the relationship
between kinship, land, and at.oow.
This is not a professional production; on the contrary, it
is a loving and personal homage to Jennie, shot on home video
by Nora Marks Dauenhauer and Suzanne Scollon.
