Gathering of the Elders: (Book & CDs)
In 1995 and 1996, Donna May (Sumner) Roberts held two Tsimshian dictionary workshops in Metlakatla, Alaska. The workshops were some of the first attempts at providing a more user-friendly orthography of the Shim-al-gyack language. Gathering of the Elders is the first Tsimshian dictionary to use the new orthography. Dum Baal-dumŽ strongly encourages students to use this book with the Gathering of the Elders CDs (included). The book and CDs provide students an exclusive opportunity to listen to Elders as they offer their knowledge of Shim-al-gyack and its meanings. Workshop participants included Ira Booth, Russell Hayward, Solomon Guthrie, Bernard Guthrie, Lillian Buchert, Mel and Ruth Booth and Donna May. Created by Dum Baal-dumŽ, a Shim-al-gyack language preservation endeavor led by husband-and-wife team Tony and Donna May Roberts of Metlakatla. |
