A Tsimshian Cultural Study Guide (Volumes I-IV)
A four-volume compilation of stories on Tsimshian history, legend and mythology, as recorded by William Beynon, a Tsimshian who vigorously worked to preserve the language before his death in 1969. Shim-al-gyack words are interspersed throughout the stories, and as students read them, they must translate the Shim-al-gyack words to English in a column by each story. The stories are followed by word-match quizzes to help reinforce knowledge of the Shim-al-gyack words learned. Created by Dum Baal-dumŽ, a Shim-al-gyack language preservation endeavor led by husband-and-wife team Tony and Donna May Roberts of Metlakatla. |
