Sm’algyax: A Reference Dictionary & Grammar for the Coast Tsimshian Language
Sealaska Heritage Institute is pleased to sponsor the reprinting of this new, combined edition of John Dunn's classic Dictionary and Grammar for the Coast Tsimshian Language. These two works were originally published as separate books in 1978 and 1979 by the Canadian Museum of Civilization, but they have been out of print for some time, although the demand for them has continued. In Alaska and British Columbia, there is renewed interest in the Tsimshian language. In the early 1990s, Tsimshian language teachers in British Columbia adopted the spelling system used in this book. Thus, it has helped to establish a standard writing system for Tsimshian. We believe this combined reprint will be used by teachers, students and the Tsimshian community in general for many years.
