Yaakoosgé X’óow, or Blanket of Knowledge, is a limited edition Chilkat-style wool blanket woven by Pendleton Woolen Mills and produced by Sealaska Heritage Institute. The reversible blanket was adapted from a classic 19th century Chilkat blanket design—the central motif is that of Raven. Balance with Raven is created by a young Eagle on the blanket’s commemorative ultra-suede label. The border is a rendering of the Tlingit basketry pattern "half the head of a salmon berry." Colors are vibrant and contemporary: deep red, dark purple, turquoise, brown, and black on a warm yellow background. This is the first in a series of commemorative Pendleton blankets to celebrate Southeast Alaskan Native traditional cultures—Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian—in the new millennium.
The Blanket of Knowledge was produced in an edition of 1,000 and is available in limited and open editions. Our open edition, priced at $195.00, is bound in felt and features an ultra-suede commemorative patch. Blankets are 82% pure virgin wool with 18% spool spun cotton warp. 64" X 80".
