Barbara Jordan Health
Policy Scholars Program (Application)
Applications for the 2007 program are now being accepted. The
application deadline is December 15, 2006. The Scholars Program brings
talented American Indian/Alaska Native (recent) graduates to
Washington, D.C., where they are placed in Congressional offices to
learn about health policy. This is a nine-week program (May 21st
– July 28th, 2007.) Scholars gain knowledge about federal
legislative procedure and health policy issues, while further
developing their critical thinking and leadership skills. The Barbara
Jordan Health Policy Scholars Program helps develop the next
generation of health policy leadership in this country. Supporting
and nurturing their interest in health policy is vital to the future
of healthcare. For nine weeks, the Scholars work in congressional
offices. As part of their Washington experience, each scholar writes
and presents a health policy research paper. In addition, the
Scholars participate in seminars and site visits which augment their
knowledge of health care issues. During their stay in Washington
D.C., the Scholars reside on the campus of Howard University.
Scholars receive approximately $7,500 in support, which include
A stipend of $2000 upon completion of the program
A daily expense allowance for meals and local transportation
Transportation/airfare to and from Washington, D.C.
Lodging at Howard University in Washington, D.C.
