About P.I.T.A.A.S.

Alaska is in an urgent situation and in need of indigenous teachers. What can be done to overcome the shortage?  How can we work together to recruit qualified educators who will remain in rural school districts?  P.I.T.A.A.S. (Preparing Indigenous Teachers & Administrators for Alaska Schools) is a grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education with the following goals to address these needs:

Increase the number of qualified Alaska Native teachers graduating from the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS)

Improve on-campus support for Alaska Native students

Collaborate with partners to build a support network for P.I.T.A.A.S. participants

Cultivate culturally responsive and culturally supportive programs at UAS by modifying the existing Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Bachelor of Science programs

Components of P.I.T.A.A.S.:
