WINNERS OF SEALASKA JURIED ART SHOW ANNOUNCED

Four artists have taken top awards at the first Sealaska Juried Art Show: Art & At.óow! The winners, chosen by internationally renowned artist Robert Davidson and Northwest Coast art scholar and museum director Aldonoa Jonaitis, are:

  • BEST OF SHOW- Copper Woman- by Clarissa Hudson

  • 1st Place- Owl and Humpback Shakee.át- by Richard A. Beasley

  • 2nd Place- Raven Hat- by Preston Singletary

  • 3rd Place- Spruce Root Basket, Northern Style Cooking- by Teri Rofkar

    The following art pieces also were selected for inclusion in the show:

  • Eagle Mask-Bronze- by Mick Beasley
  • Raven Shakee.át- by Archie Cavanaugh
  • Human Portrait Mask- by Michael Dangeli
  • Bird- by Michael Dangeli
  • Short Stories- by Yvette Lynn Diltz
  • Cedar Basket- by Frances M. Jackson
  • Kaach.adi Hat- by Norman L. Jackson
  • Spruce Root Bottle- by Opal Lee Olsen
  • Mt. Fairweather Bulge Bowl- by William Daniel Pfeifer
  • Traditional Ceremonial Bib- by Florence Marks Sheakley
  • Beaded Motif; Eagle/Whales- by Florence Marks Sheakley
  • Cedar Bottle- by Jeffrey P. Sheakley, Jr.
  • Raven Tail Belt- by Rita Adams Sheakley
  • Raven’s Wing Mask- by Preston Singletary

    The pieces will be exhibited during Celebration 2002 at the Alaska State Museum, a partner in this endeavor. The Sealaska Juried Art Show opens at the Juneau museum on June 5 and runs through Sept. 28.
