SHI ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR COLLEGE, VOC-TECH
SCHOLARSHIPS
Sealaska Heritage Institute (SHI) is accepting
applications for the 2008-2009 school year.
Scholarship awards will be made to Sealaska shareholders and descendants
enrolled in accredited college, university and voc-tech schools.
The scholarship funds awarded are provided by Sealaska Corporation from
an endowment and corporate 7 (i) sharing provisions established under
the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). The Section 7(i)
Agreement among the regional corporations provides scholarships to
students seeking degrees in disciplines that lead to employment in
Sealaska or its subsidiaries.
The institute also will award one scholarship from the Judson L. Brown
Endowment Fund, which was founded in 2006 by Chris and Mary McNeil.
SHI is a Native nonprofit established in 1981 to administer educational
and cultural programs for Sealaska, a regional Native corporation formed
under ANCSA. The institute’s mission is to perpetuate and enhance
Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian cultures.
Applications are available at
www.sealaskaheritage.org. The deadline is March 1, 2008.
