Live) Millions of school children from across the country will have access next week to a 60-minute live broadcast showcasing Southeast Alaska Native history and traditions. "Listening to Our Ancestors" will broadcast on May 8 from Juneau's Auke Rec, ancestral homeland of the Tlingit Áak’w Kwáan. Sealaska Heritage Institute (SHI) is a partner in the Electronic Field Trip (EFT), which is produced by Ball State University. The institute helped coordinate the project, identified important cultural places to visit and helped develop curriculum for a website set up especially for Listening to Our Ancestors project. SHI staff also will teach units, which will be videotaped and incorporated into the broadcast and website. Other partners include Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, Iridium Satellite and UPS Foundation. Ball State will set up a video stream of the
60-minute broadcast from its
website
in mid-May. DVDs will be available for purchase in late May. The website
