Press Release May 31, 2004 SEALASKA HERITAGE TO SPONSOR NATIVE EDUCATION FORUMS Sealaska Heritage Institute will host a series of meetings this summer to discuss Native education issues in Juneau. Those concerned about the education of Native students are invited to attend. The first forum will be held Tuesday, June 15, at the ANB Hall from 12 - 3 p.m. The agenda will include presentations on culture-based education programs by Dr. William Demmert, Jr., Western Washington University, and the status of Native education in Southeast Alaska by Dr. Ted A. Wright, Antioch University Seattle. Dr. Demmert serves on the Board of Sealaska Heritage Institute and Dr. Wright is working with the Institute as an Education Program consultant. Lunch will be served and door prizes awarded. Additional meetings will be held on July 13 and August 17. |
