SHI holds the copyright to material it produces. However, SHI also is bound by the traditional laws of the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian of Southeast Alaska. Under traditional law, clans hold the ownership to their stories, songs and crests. SHI requests that viewers respect this law and that they not use any of the crests that are depicted in the website photos without the permission of the appropriate clans.
