Grand Entrance, Grand Exit & Parade
The Celebration 2006 Grand Entrance will begin to assemble in front of the ANB Hall on Willoughby Avenue on Thursday, June 1st between 7:30-8:00 am. For the Grand Entrance, the front of the procession will begin at Fireweed Place Apartments and continue down Willoughby Avenue. The Celebration 2006 Grand Entrance will be going down Willoughby Avenue only to Centennial Hall. The Celebration 2006 Parade will begin to assemble in the Mt. Roberts Tram parking lot off of South Franklin Street on Saturday, June 3rd between 7:30-8:00 am. The parade procession will precede up South Franklin Street to Front Street, left on Front, down Front to Main Street, left on Main, down Main to Egan/Marine Way, right on Egan/Marine Way, down Egan/Marine Way, right on Willoughby Avenue, down Willoughby Avenue to Centennial Hall. For both events, dance groups need to line up according to the order in which they appear/perform on the dance group schedule. Please refer to the Celebration 2006 Parade Line-up sheet that you have been provided with to insure proper order. Parade staff will be there to help dance group leaders coordinate and organize their groups in preparation for both events. It is crucial that dance group leaders maintain tight control over their dancers and provide leadership to ensure that all participants are lined up in a timely and orderly fashion. When the events begin, dance group leaders need to maintain 8-10 foot spacing between their group and the group in front of them, to prevent bunching (safety) and to give every group an opportunity to shine. Parade staff will accompany both processions to Centennial Hall to maintain security and order and to provide communications to the Juneau Police Department and Emergency Medical Services if there are any problems or emergencies that arise during the events. The Southeast Alaska Native Veterans will be leading both the Grand Entrance and the Parade will a full color guard and they should be used a starting point for the dance groups to begin lining up by performance order. The lead dance group will be positioned immediately behind the Southeast Alaska Native Veterans color guard. This is a drug and alcohol free event, and any visibly intoxicated individuals will be removed from an event by JPD and security personnel. Traffic control will be provided by JPD and we ask that all participants respect any and all directives given to them by JPD officers for the safety and enjoyment of all event participants. We ask all dance group leaders to make sure that they provide water for their dancers, it is crucial that participants stay hydrated, for obvious health and safety reasons. We ask that all Elders please take a bottle of water with them, especially for the parade, which is a longer route/event. The Grand Exit will commence after the end of all events on the evening of Saturday June 3rd. This year, the Grand Exit will be executed as it had been in past Celebrations (except 2004); dancers will assemble on the Centennial Hall lawn, proceed into Centennial Hall and then back out to the lawn.
